Outreach alternatives for small sales teams

Outreach was built for enterprise sales organisations with dedicated RevOps teams, Salesforce admins, and multi-month implementation budgets. It's an excellent platform if that describes your context. For small sales teams — a startup with two SDRs, a scale-up growing from five to fifteen reps, a founder-led team just starting to formalise outbound — it's a mismatch in almost every dimension.

The implementation alone typically runs four to six weeks. The ongoing admin — sequence governance, CRM field mapping, permission structures, user management — requires someone whose job it is to maintain the platform. And the pricing reflects its enterprise positioning, which is hard to justify when you haven't yet validated the outbound motion you're trying to scale.

If you've looked at Outreach and concluded it's too much, here are the alternatives that actually work for smaller teams.

Salesloft

Salesloft is a direct Outreach competitor and shares many of the same enterprise-oriented trade-offs — implementation complexity, pricing, and the assumption that you have a RevOps function. It's worth mentioning because some teams find its UX more intuitive than Outreach's and its pipeline management features more useful for AE-driven teams.

For small teams under ten reps, it's still likely to be more platform than you need. The implementation and ongoing maintenance cost is real, and you'll still need to bolt on a data tool and a dialer to cover the full workflow.

HubSpot Sales Hub

If your team is already using HubSpot as a CRM, the Sales Hub's sequencing tools are a low-friction starting point. They're not as powerful as a dedicated engagement platform, but for teams running relatively simple outbound plays — a few touchpoints over a couple of weeks, mostly email — they're enough to get moving without adding another tool to the stack.

HubSpot's strength is the ecosystem. If everything else already lives there, keeping sequencing in HubSpot makes data clean and reporting simple. If you're evaluating from scratch, there are faster platforms to get up and running on.

The thing that kills small sales teams isn't picking the wrong sequencing tool — it's the overhead of managing too many tools.
